Avoding the Email Template: Handwritten Letters

Although it may appear like penmanship is becoming inessential, it’s one that is still today important in numerous walks of life. A handwritten letter carries more importance than a typed missive; for instance an application for a job, an invitation or an apology.

One might imagine it’s a recent trend of people shunning penmanship and using a computer instead, yet as far back as the late 19th century, there were that hand writing was being ignored due to the invention of those times : the typwriter. Now in the 21st century, the blame is being corresponded to the utilisation of computers.

Still, there is still a strong requirement for penmanship skills in academia and the business world. Handwritten letters are considered as more trustworthy, they demonstrate the writer has carefully thought out her words, while evincing more respectfulness to the reader. In this era of templated responses, the penned missive has never been more authoritative.

I have an admission to make. I have oftentimes been caught red-handed with my own poor hand-writing - made worse by decades of reliance on the keyboard. In situations in which I’ve had to put pen to paper, my words have been a sloping scrawl. It doesn’t look good. So how did I get over this problem? How to work out such a problem? I wrote more often, and my writing improved greatly. So it’s best to brush up on your hand-writing by practise.

Another piece of advice is to acquire a pen you are comfy with, and it must accept refills. A great pen is the noted mont blanc pen. This permits you to improve your penmanship with the same pen.
